5 good reasons to choose NO-NAIL BOXES for your logistics

In this article, we explore five reasons why NO-NAIL BOXES are an essential solution for your company.

1. Space saving and space optimization:

NO-NAIL BOXES’ products are designed to maximize storage space. Their stacking resistance allows optimal storage in warehouses and containers, thus reducing costs and environmental impact. Additionally, their foldable design saves up to 85% storage space when delivered and stored flat.

2. Lightweight and reduced shipping costs:

Our folding plywood and steel boxes are up to 2.3 times lighter than a traditional wooden box of the same dimensions. This weight reduction not only leads to savings on shipping costs but also frees up to 16% of useful space inside the box.

3. Durability and environmental responsibility:

Choosing our folding boxes means choosing a sustainable and eco-friendly solution. They are up to eight times more resistant than a cardboard box and can be reused up to 200 times. By replacing up to 50 non reusable packagings, our boxes help reduce waste and protect the environment. Additionally, they are entirely made of plywood and steel, making them 100% recyclable.

4. Enhanced brand image:

Our customizable boxes improve the recognition and perceived value of your products by your customers and partners. Thanks to their quality materials, they ensure an impeccable brand image, showcasing your company in a professional and refined manner.

Conquered Installers: Success of the Partnership between NO-NAIL BOXES and Solarcells

Following the fruitful partnership between NO-NAIL BOXES and Solarcells, which we discussed earlier this year, installers are very enthusiastic and satisfied. Indeed, these professionals, at the heart of the production and installation chain of solar panels, are now the first witnesses of the benefits of this collaboration focused on sustainability and quality.

Aware of the current environmental challenges, installers unanimously applaud the initiative of Solarcells and NO-NAIL BOXES to prioritize 100% reusable packaging. Not only do these packages meet the strictest safety standards, but they also embody an ecological approach, in perfect alignment with the growing environmental values of both companies.

For installers, the folding crates from NO-NAIL BOXES are not just containers. They represent a real quality guarantee. Designed to withstand the rigors of transportation and storage, they ensure optimal protection of solar panels while simplifying logistical operations.

In conclusion, this partnership between NO-NAIL BOXES and Solarcells goes far beyond the scope of a mere commercial collaboration. It embodies a real change, where ecology and quality go hand in hand.

The digital transformation in the production workshop of NO-NAIL BOXES

The digital transformation has had a significant impact on the production workshop of NO-NAIL BOXES over the past three years, replacing paper-based processes with modern digital systems. The aim was to remain competitive and efficient.

The end of paper-based work orders

The completion of the digitization process is in sight, as several departments are now equipped with tablets. This transition is not only a modernization but necessary to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of information. The use of paper often led to incomplete or outdated information and thus technical difficulties.

The benefits of tablets

The introduction of tablets has revolutionized workflows in the workshops of NO-NAIL BOXES. Real-time access to planning allows team members to perform their tasks more effectively. Color-coded plans, precise measurements, detailed packaging and printing information, and instantly accessible data sheets have made processes more transparent and efficient.

Significant progress in time tracking

Significant progress has also been made in the time tracking system. Workers can now select their tasks and enter their names via tablets, providing the entire team with a better overview of ongoing and completed tasks.

Further challenges and future projects

Despite the many advantages of digitization, some industries, such as that of profiling machines, continue to use paper for the traceability of steel profiles. However, a transition to scannable labels has already begun. NO-NAIL BOXES continues its progress towards complete digitization and is in the final phase of the package geolocation project. This project aims to improve the traceability and logistical management of packages leaving the two panel saws.

Testimonial from Daniel, operator at NO-NAIL BOXES:

“The transition to digitization was inevitable, but after working here for almost 18 years, the transition was anything but easy. Initially, I encountered resistance as it required more time and effort. Over time, however, the benefits for the company became evident. Every day brings new changes and adjustments that need to be made, but I am convinced that this will contribute to optimizing our operations. In particular, I am excited about geolocation, which promises to be a real asset in saving time and energy for all employees.”

In summary, the digitization of NO-NAIL BOXES workshops has ushered in a new era in industrial manufacturing. It offers more efficient, precise, and transparent processes and marks a transition into the future where innovation and technology serve quality and customer satisfaction.

What tools do we use to guide our customers in their packaging choices?

Since our foundation, our customer engagement as a manufacturer of plywood folding boxes has been to provide packaging that is perfectly adapted to our customers’ needs. We work with many different industries and the diversity of our solutions, the different storage and transport modalities as well as the export regulations for the different countries and transported goods explain the wide range of our offer. We are aware of this reality which offers so many possibilities and are therefore committed to helping our customers choose the most suitable packaging for their needs, thanks to several tools that we will detail below.

Technical data sheets

Our technical data sheets are available either by model or by target industry and are indispensable for our clients’ purchase department. They are updated regularly and contain technical information about each box: pallet type, walls, cover and closure system. In addition to these dimensions, materials and other specifications, the advantages of the product and the optimal context in which it can be used are also described. Thus, we have at our customers’ disposal technical data sheets on the CLIP BOX, EXBOX, RIBOX, EXBOX and ISIBOX models. We also have supports dedicated to specific and sensitive sectors of activity, such as the army and the defense sector. Finally, to guarantee the reliability of our products, we also provide our customers with data sheets about the phytosanitary standards in force (ISPM 15) or about our different labels and certifications. This is to guarantee safety, relevance, confidence and transparency.

Tutorial videos about the box assembly

The technical data sheets are a starting point and a classic way of “training” our customers in our products. But for the more operational aspect, i.e. the assembly of our folding boxes, we have produced short assembly videos. These videos are made on our premises with our team members and show how the boxes can be assembled easily and safely.

Specifications for specific boxes

Specific boxes, in particular the approved boxes for transporting dangerous goods and categorized according to a specific UN nomenclature, must scrupulously respect the specifications in force. These boxes must be marked according to the UN codifications, with the regulatory codes. They have previously been subjected to stacking and drop tests by approved laboratories, guaranteeing their approval. In order to help our customers with this type of request, our design office provides them with a grid for the specifications to be completed according to their need. And of course, we are at the disposal of our customers to assist them in their procedures.

A team at your disposal

Customer relationship is first and foremost a human relationship and for NO-NAIL BOXES. It is an aspect we particularly care about. Our team of technical sales engineers is available to guide customers towards the most suitable and well thought-out choices. Our specialists visit the customer to analyze the products and the environment in order to be able to respond to his needs.

We are once again participating in international fairs such as the Global Industrie and the leading packaging week in Paris. These are essential events to meet our customers and future customers, to whom we present our know-how, products and new products.

From the simple technical data sheet to the assembly video, via our physical presence at our customers premises, we are committed to offering more than products, more than service, but also a real human proximity. We realize this with individual consulting, through contact persons who are there for the customer throughout the entire customer experience, and this in an era of robots, AI and the all-web.

The Belgian Packaging Institute IBE: a key partner for the approval of our boxes

Our plywood boxes, which are destined for logistic loops, different types of products, different transport methods and also for export, require not only customization but also approval, depending on the transported material and their destination. These different technical requirements in relation to the safety of goods and people involves approvals performed by authorized partners. For several decades, we have been relying on the Belgian Packaging Institute, a testing laboratory accredited according to ISO 17025, in particular for testing packaging for hazardous products in compliance with UN regulations. This is the opportunity to have a look at all the services provided.

Compression and vibration: essential tests for our plywood boxes

Whether they have to be approved or not, all of our plywood boxes must undergo various tests to guarantee their resistance as well as the safety of goods and people during storage and/or transport. It is essential for our customers to have approved boxes.

Therefore, the following tests are carried out at the Belgian Packaging Institute’s test stations:

  • Compression tests
  • Vibration tests
  • Drop tests
  • Tests for the approval of boxes intended for the transport of dangerous goods.

The compression and vibration tests of plywood boxes are performed by the Physical Testing Department. They allow us to test the stacking resistance of the boxes, which means that they are stacked on top of each other, generating additional compression. In order to reduce space during storage or transport, it is very important for our customers to know the real compression strength of the boxes.

Vibration tests are carried out for the use of packaging in the United States, to comply with CFR 49 legislation. This involves simulating different transport conditions, whether by road (ADR), rail (RID), ship (IMDG) or air (IAT). In addition, vibration tests are also mandatory for large volume packaging (IBCs) above 400kg.

Tests for the approval of boxes intended for the transport of dangerous goods

As we have seen in one of our previous articles, the packaging and transport of hazardous goods are specifically governed by national, European and international regulations and must have a packaging code according to the UN approval system. It is therefore within this specific framework that our approved boxes must be used. The Belgian Institute of Packaging is the only one accredited to carry out this official approval, which requires a 4-digit UN code as well as the coding of the packaging group on each box. Additional requirements may be recommended in terms of packaging instructions, such as specific inner packaging.

Drop tests

Our long-term collaboration with the Belgian Packaging Institute is carried out through our design office, which is in charge of all approval projects, from the specifications to the drop test. We have a drop test station to test boxes for the transport of regulated materials. These tests are not only supervised by our partner IBE but also by other approved institutes such as the Bureau des Verifications Techniques (BVT) and the Laboratoire Nationale de Métrologie et d’Essais (LNE). To ensure that the tests are approved and conducted under optimal conditions, an audit is carried out every year. The drop tests also allow the strength and solidity of the plywood boxes to be tested and corrective actions to be taken for optimization purposes. In-house drop testing is a contractual obligation for manufacturers.

In a context of globalization and increased security, the approval of plywood boxes for transport and logistic loops is an essential process for our customers who have trusted us for more than 60 years. Our design office is in charge of scrupulously carrying out the various specifications from all sectors, and it is for this reason that we are currently able to offer more than 50 4DV approved models (plywood boxes), some of which can carry up to 400 kg of dangerous materials. The compliance of these boxes with the standards in force could not be done without the collaboration with partners such as the IBE or the BVT.

We would like to thank Dimitri De Valk, Head of Department of Dangerous Packaging at IBE, for giving us an interview about all the services provided at their test center.

For the love of wood and art: NO-NAIL BOXES supports artists

2021 is a very special year for NO-NAIL BOXES as the company celebrates its 60 years of existence: 60 years of know-how, excellence and passion at the service of the industry. As a manufacturer of plywood folding boxes, we are committed to meeting the specific needs of many sectors and to working and acting as a responsible company. This commitment based on respect is also embodied in the field of intellectual and artistic production, whether it be for some of our customers or for some of our suppliers. This is therefore an opportunity for us to highlight some of our recent collaborations.

Celebrating 60 years with responsible actions

To mark the 60th anniversary of our company, we wanted to pay tribute to all those who have made and are making NO-NAIL BOXES what it is today. We have just published an anniversary book-album which looks back on the evolution of our activity since 1961, in French, German and Dutch. These books are printed in Germany by a responsible printing company and on FSC-certified paper, which means that at least 70 % of the paper is made from FSC-certified recycled materials and the remaining 30 % meets the requirements of the FSC Controlled Wood certification. The French publisher who produced this book, La Sirène aux Yeux Verts éditions, is part of a cooperative of activities (CAE Alteractifs) labeled SSE, Social and Solidarity Economy and therefore creator of value and employment.

To thank our customers for their loyalty, we have also commissioned a French cabinetmaker to produce solid wood telephone holders from workshop offcuts, hand-carved and engraved with our image. All made in France. In this way, we favour local and responsible production, and are keen to work with suppliers who share the same values as us.

Engaging our work also towards the artistic sector

Since 23 October, the exhibition “Artist’s jewellery, from Picasso to Koons: Diane Venet’s ideal collection” has been on view at the Cercle Cité. Diane Venet is the wife of the internationally acclaimed French steel sculptor Bernar Venet, and owns this unique collection of artists’ jewellery which has already been shown in several museums around the world. In this context, we were asked by the scenographers of the Cercle Cité team, in the person of Nathalie Jacoby of the NJOY architecture firm, to participate in the setting up of the exhibition. We provided boxes that served as both supports and displays for the jewellery, contributing to a warm and uncluttered atmosphere.

Located in Neufchâtel-en-Bray in the Seine-Maritime region of France, the Leblon Delienne workshop has been making and distributing sculptures, furniture and art objects throughout the world for over 30 years. These are exceptional pieces, produced in limited editions and which require the greatest care in their transport. It was therefore quite natural that Juliette de Begliers, President of the company, came to us for customized boxes for export, with specific protections and foam, adapted to the product and the transport conditions.

With these few examples, we want to say that we are proud to participate in our own way to the influence of artistic creation, which is a facet often ignored by our potential customers. Whatever your sector of activity is, our design office will always find the best solution for your specifications and transport conditions.
